Raised in Vienna, Kurosaki’s career as a modern violinist started at an early age after winning prizes at important international violin competitions such as “Henryk Wieniawski“and “Fritz Kreisler”. However, he soon turned his attention to Historical Performance on period instruments.
His collaboration with key figures of Early Music and as leader and soloist of prestigious groups such as London Baroque, Clemencic Consort and Les Arts Florissants, took him to major international concert venues and festivals.
The artist participated in numerous recordings with all of these ensembles as well as the highly-acclaimed recording of the Handel violin sonatas with William Christie (Virgin Veritas). Together with the fortepiano player Linda Nicholson, he recorded the complete violin sonatas of Mozart (Erato / Japan Academy award 1996) and Beethoven (Accent) – both tracks were world premiere recordings on historical instruments. In the past few years, Hiro Kurosaki has expanded his activities and performed with outstanding ensembles in Spain such as “La Ritirata” and the “Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla“. In addition to his activities as a violinist, he also has an extensive teaching career.
He is professor for baroque violin at the Music University of Vienna and the “Mozarteum” in Salzburg. From 2005 to 2018 he was also professor at the “Real Conservatorio superior de Música de Madrid”. He frequently is also asked to give masterclasses and spezialised courses. Thanks to his expertise in Historical Performance, he has often been asked to work as a coach respectively leader/concertmaster with “modern” orchestras like the Orquesta Nacional de España, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg or the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
